Description

The North West Psychodrama Association presents:

RELATIONSHIP PSYCHOTHERAPY: A MINIMALIST PSYCHODRAMA

a workshop by JOSE FONSECA, M.D., Ph.D. (Brazil)

22-24 October 2010

Manchester Youth Hostel, Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester M3 4NB

Relationship psychotherapy is a minimalist version of classical psychodrama, adapting classical group psychodrama techniques to shorter individual psychotherapy sessions. Emphasising the presence of relational philosophy within the therapeutic work, relationship psychotherapy proposes the pragmatic observation and understanding of the relational phenomenon, working with the patient-therapist relationship on the one hand, and the relationships within the patient’s internal world on the other. It creates a playful space for therapeutic work, allowing connections to be made between the client’s internal and external world.

As relationship psychotherapy unifies the roles of the director and auxiliary ego, classical psychodrama techniques have been adapted (double-mirror - synthesizing the double and the mirror, role-playing, role reversal), and new techniques developed (videotape and internal psychodrama) for this working modality. This workshop will present the theoretical principles behind relationship psychotherapy (ranging from relational psychology, the psychology of consciousness, the matrix of identity, the theory of personality and self and internal sociometry, to the concepts of tele and transference) as well as demonstrate its techniques and practice.

Jose Fonseca, M.D., Ph.D., is a senior psychodrama trainer at the São Paulo Psychodrama Society; coordinator of the Daimon Centre for Relationship Studies (São Paulo); one of the pioneers of the Brazilian psychodrama movement; former editor of the International Forum of Group Psychotherapy. He is the author of the books: Relationship Psychotherapy (2000), Psychodrama of Madness (2008) (in Portuguese) and Contemporary Psychodrama: New Approaches to Theory and Technique in English (Brunner-Routledge, 2004).

This workshop costs £150, or £130 if booked before the 31st of March 2010. A non-refundable deposit of £50 will secure a place. The complete balance must be paid at the latest one month in advance (21st of September 2010). The workshop is open to psychodrama trainees and practitioners (offering 15 training or CPD hours), as well as other professionals interested.
