Ethics Committee

What is our role?

The Ethics Committee serves several functions for the organisation:

  • Updating the BPA Code of Conduct and Complaints procedures
  • Keeping abreast of changes in the law and ensuring BPA members are up-to-date with regard to any legal changes and relevant documentation that may impact their work and practice.
  • Holding the BPA’s Complaints Procedure. Complaints against any BPA member regarding clinical practice are passed over to our umbrella organisation, the UKCP. Non-clinical complaints or concerns pertaining to members’ or training schools’ conduct can be dealt with by our Committee. As a psychotherapy organisation we value the power of communication and of being heard, to ease and diffuse breaches where they occur. We aim to resolve any issues at the lowest possible level and are able to offer mediation between parties. If mediation is unsuccessful or unwanted then the formal complaints procedure may be employed. A link to this can be found here

Who are we?

The Ethics Committee comprises a diverse group of BPA members ranging from trainees to senior trainers and everything in between. We welcome anyone with an interest in ethics to join us. The more varied and wide the experience in our team, the safer the BPA and its members will be.
